Associação Pleno Cidadão
In July 2026, Pathways of Art partnered with Associação Pleno Cidadão (ASPEC), a nonprofit organization in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, that provides shelter and support to people experiencing homelessness and other forms of social vulnerability.
Supported by a $10,000 Davis Projects for Peace grant, we designed and facilitated 28 visual arts and percussion workshops across four ASPEC shelters, providing essential materials and instructional resources for residents and staff to ensure the work continues beyond our time there.
The workshops introduced participants to different artistic materials, techniques, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, with activities designed to accommodate varying levels of experience. Alongside learning new skills, participants were encouraged to experiment, express themselves, and share their knowledge with one another.
This project explores how a creative practice can shift the way people see themselves, especially in moments when dignity and possibility feel out of reach.
